Providing Balanced, Affirmative-Exploratory Care with Transgender & Gender Diverse Youth: 2 Day Virtual Training (for mental health professionals)

Friday, December 2, 2022 and Monday, December 5, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. PST

This 2-day virtual training will provide in-depth information on how to work with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth in a balanced, affirming-exploratory manner. The focus will be on mental health therapy and assessment. The second day, in particular, will dive into the important topics that should be addressed when assessing gender dysphoric youth seeking medical interventions. Specific details on how to conduct these assessments in a more traditional psychological assessment manner will be provided. Additionally, we will explore complex cases, ethical challenges, and current controversies in the field. All of the information provided will be consistent with the World Professional Association’s Standards of Care – Version 8, but the focus will go beyond what is available in the WPATH document. Some time will also be spent discussing how this information may sometimes apply to older adolescent (emerging adult) clients. I have been offering this training for many years, and the feedback has always been incredibly positive. Consistent with the rapidly changing landscape in the trans health field and among gender diverse youth, I have updated the information offered over the years to ensure that it is as relevant as possible.

*Please note, if your philosophical approach to working with gender diverse youth does not incorporate or value deeper exploration and diagnostic clarification, this training is probably not for you. The goal for the training is to create a positive learning environment where all participants feel comfortable asking questions, critically thinking, and engaging in respectful dialogue. The facilitator holds the right to remove anyone from the training who does not participate in a professional and respectful manner.

Limited to mental health professionals only. Training will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PST with a 30-minute break (10:30 - 11:00) and two 10-minute breaks. Email with a Zoom link will be sent before the event.

Continuing Education: Formal CEs are not available for this training; however, I would be happy to provide you with a certificate of participation that may be used for some professional CE hours, depending on your degree and the state in which you are licensed.
